How I will work with you
You know your business and probably have an idea of the communications ‘tool’ you need. As a communications professional, I know how to create a tool that will fulfill your needs. My three-step Client Service Process establishes a working relationship that is straightforward, effective and cost-efficient.
Step 1: Defining To develop the right communications solution, I need to understand the “big picture” as well as the details. Before I begin your project, I will get to know you, your company, your products and services to the level needed:
• Your marketing objectives to know where you are going
• Your industry to understand issues and trends
• Your competitors to know what you are up against
• Your market, customer and product data
• Your website and print materials.
• Where needed, I will sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Step 2: Planning We will write a Communications Platform that puts on paper a description of the situation and needs before work begins. This is a time-tested and necessary first step for three very important reasons:
1. The more information you provide at the beginning of the project, the more value for your money you’ll receive and the sooner the project will be completed.
2. I will make dozens of key creative decisions throughout the project. The better I understand what we are to accomplish and the more information I have to understand your situation, the more ‘on target’ my decisions will be and the fewer revisions we will go through.
3. The Platform will provide a means for you to measure how well I have fulfilled the requirements for the project.
When this Communications Platform is completed and you have approved it, I will then provide a cost estimate and timetable. Once we agree on a cost and schedule, and you sign the Project Agreement and provide payment for 50 percent of the estimated cost, I get to work. The other 50 percent of the cost, along with any adjustments if the project changes as work proceeds, is paid at the conclusion prior to delivery of final computer files.
Step 3: Implementing Depending on the project, I will begin developing one or more concepts with some initial visuals for your approval – main messages, layout, format, colors. If we’ve done a thorough job on the Communications Platform, the project may ‘write itself.’ Developing a communications solution is an evolutionary process; you may like certain aspects of these initial visuals, be unsure about others or want your own ideas incorporated. Your feedback at this stage is crucial to the process. A couple of drafts are usually necessary to nail it down. Once you initial your approval, final artwork is prepared for production.
This process ensures that the resulting strategy and communications solution I provide meets your objectives – and gets you results. It also means you get a marketing communications partner to work with you over the long-haul.
Are we a good fit? Although I work with companies of all sizes, my sweet spot is serving start-ups and small businesses needing communications help due to limited staff resources or an upcoming big project.
